Importing hardware from the US & what not to do..

i bought a multi-bay ide to usb2 raid case from america which i plugged into my ups, both the case and ups use kettle type fittings. *BANG*!!!!!!!!!!!. something fried, needed a differnet voltage.
yeah i know pretty stupid of me..

i have a 1year warrenlty but do people think it will be possible to return this? or will it be obvious what has happened? alternatively is there anything else i could do that i might not have thought of?
